Professor Diana Burton is pro vice chancellor at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU), having joined the university as Dean of Education, Community and Leisure in 2002. Starting her career teaching secondary pupils in a challenging community, she became a teacher educator at Manchester Metropolitan University from 1989 – 2002.
As a member of LJMU’s senior management team, Diana contributes to the corporate strategic development and leads all aspects of research and the student experience. She holds a Masters degree and PhD from the University of Birmingham and has published several books and journal articles on aspects of education studies and teacher development. She is involved in a number of research projects.
Diana is governor of Riverside College, Halton having recently stepped down as Chair after four years. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and of the Higher Education Academy.
Diana is married to an education professor and together they have four sons who have between them experienced three types of post-16 education. Diana is passionate about improving opportunities for disadvantaged young people and is keen to help the post-16 sector exploit its crucial role in this regard.
