Linda Houtby
Linda is currently Principal of Grantham College, a position she has held since July 2009. Linda started her career in Further Education at the age of 21 whilst undertaking a research Masters programme in Psychology at the University of Sheffield. Part time teaching hours in psychology across various colleges across South Yorkshire soon snowballed as the subject grew in popularity in the late 1980s. In 1991 she obtained a full time teaching post at Barnsley College and left in 2001 having been promoted to be the Director of Development role 18 months previously. During her time at Barnsley she managed the social science, early years, social care and LLDD provision as well as being a moderator and examiner for GCSE and A level Psychology.

In 2001 Linda moved to Lincoln College as Vice Principal with responsibility for quality and curriculum. As the college grew Linda was promoted to Deputy Principal and moved to Grantham 8 years later as Principal. Linda has maintained an interest in the LLDD curriculum as well as in her original background in Occupational Psychology. She is keen to support student involvement in the life of the college as well as supporting staff to achieve their own potential. As part of that commitment Linda was delighted to be asked to chair the national Healthy FE group which is now managed by LSIS and was equally pleased to be able to represent colleagues from the East Midlands on the LSIS Council. Linda is also a keen advocate of the development programmes that LSIS run having been an enthusiastic participant in both the Aspiring Principals’ and Principals’ Qualifying Programme.
