Maggi Butterworth 

Director, Swarthmore Education Centre

Maggi has 35 years experience working in education of which 31 years have been in adult education.

Maggi has been Director at Swarthmore since March 2008. Prior to this she was a Community Learning Manager at Leeds Thomas Danby (now amalgamated to form Leeds City College) and spent 20 years working across some of the most challenging and diverse communities in Leeds. Swarthmore is classed as an FEI and is an independent organisation, a not for profit registered charity and a company limited by guarantee. It has been a privilege to lead Swarthmore through their Centenary year during 2009.

Maggi has always been passionate about giving people a chance to succeed and investing in people both staff and students alike. She spent many years assisting NIACE on a voluntary basis planning local Adult Learners Week award ceremonies and as part of a panel to choose award winners.

Maggi is currently a member of a number of local educational and community partnerships and committees and is committed to more ‘inter agency joined up thinking’ approaches to funding.
She has attended advisory groups at regional and national level contributing to the debate around the future of adult learning.
