Peter Garrod
Head of Service, Affiliation Lancashire Adult Learning, Lancashire County Council
Peter Garrod has been head of Lancashire Adult Learning Service since January 2006. The service is maintained by Lancashire County Council and has a national reputation for quality and for the diversity of provision. Peter is also currently involved in delivering the LSIS High Quality Manager (HQM) mentoring initiative and in the promotion and delivery of the SWOT programme. In addition, he is currently undertaking the Principal's Qualifying Programme as part of his own ongoing development.
Peter has a breadth of experience across the education sector. In his earlier career, he worked in further education, for Handsworth College and also for East Birmingham College, before joining Birmingham Adult Education Service in 1990. In 1993, Peter moved to the North West to become principal of The Adult College Lancaster – a former External Institution which grew rapidly in the 1990s. With the onset of the LSC, Lancashire conducted a review of its adult education provision and he played a major role in the subsequent development of Lancashire Adult Learning – culminating in his current appointment.
Throughout his career, Peter has been involved with regional and national groups, including being a FEFC Council member 1996 – 1999 and a member of the FEFC Audit Committee and the Reorganisation Committee. More recently with the LSC, Peter has been a member of the Adult Learning External Advisory Group and also a member of the Agenda for Change Funding Theme Technical Sub Group. Currently, vice chair of HOLEX – the local adult learning provider network.
