LSIS hosted the Safeguarding 2010 conference at Holborn Bars, London on Tuesday 30 November 2010
Safeguarding continues to be high on the policy agenda. The recent announcement to review the Vetting and Barring Scheme (VBS) in no way detracts from providers’ responsibility to develop a whole-organisational approach to safeguarding.
This conference focused on how providers are driving the safeguarding agenda forward in their organisations. A representative from Ofsted addressed delegates about inspection findings a year on from the introduction of limiting grades. There were also a selection of workshops, themes included:
- Developing safeguarding policies and practices when working with learners with profound and multiple learning difficulties.
- Effective staff training.
- Developing an e-safety policy.
- Work-based learning and safeguarding.
A second key note address focused on embedding the Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL) into teaching and learning so students can meet the five Every Child Matters outcomes, thus creating an emotionally healthy and safer learning environment.
