FE Providers and their Contribution to Local Priorities, Partners and Places

LSIS policy seminar - 27 April 2009

On 27 April 2009, LSIS held a seminar to consider the initial findings of a research project entitled Identifying the Contribution of FE Providers to Local Priorities, Partners and Places. The research was commissioned to cast a spotlight on the potential role and contribution of FE to local priorities and place-shaping principally through case studies of five colleges.

The aim of the research was to investigate:

  • what the sector currently delivers on, both for and with its community;
  • further opportunities for the sector to broaden its role in its community (often as the interface between the public and private sectors);
  • how FE providers might or have adopted locally agreed indicators within their own improvement strategy; and
  • how the sector can move from 'being responsive' to 'becoming an intelligent influencer' within local government.

The full report includes the key outcomes from the discussion in the seminar.
